Montreal-based charity organization Yellow Bird Project are releasing a covers compilation album entitled Good People Rock. The first track off the album, Andrew Bird's cover of the New Pornographer's "Fake Headline News" from their 2000 album Mass Romantic, is now available to stream on SoundCloud.
Bird's cover is stripped down, only utilizing string instruments. There's a plucking upright bass, strumming ukulele and a wailing fiddle. Though the song remains mostly the same as the original, the string arrangement gives Bird's rendition a baroque feel. His voice lends itself to the song perfectly since it sounds similar to New Pornographers singer A.C. Newman's. Stream the song above.
Good People Rock is a compilation album featuring covers by Hayden, Keaton Henson and Whispertown. Elvis Perkins and Alec Ounsworth of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah both cover songs by each other. The Yellow Bird Project is an organization who "create unique T-shirt designs that benefit an array of charities, each chosen by the musicians."
