"Spirit" - Beyoncé (from Disney's The Lion King) [YouTube Music Video]

Queen Bey has released a new music video for "Spirit" — her original song from The Lion King. Watch and listen above.

Not only is Beyoncé starring as Nala in the new Disney remake of The Lion King, but the soundtrack also features her powerful new song. "Spirit" evokes the sacred importance of life and nature in its lyrics that connect the wind, water, and stars to an inspirational message about rising up and fighting to fulfill a destiny of greatness.

It is fitting that the video showcases the beautiful African landscape, from waterfalls to wide-open desert to Mount Kilimanjaro. In between those cinematic shots of nature, there are some fun moments where you can catch clips from the upcoming movie, as well as a cameo from Beyoncé's daughter Blue Ivy. In an interview with GMA, Beyoncé described the music as "a love letter to Africa," and during the creative process "wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa and not just... my interpretation of it. I wanted it to be authentic."

In addition to being featured on the soundtrack, the song "Spirit" will also be on a Beyoncé-produced album called The Lion King: The Gift. The album is inspired by the film but goes beyond, as she explained in a press release, "This is sonic cinema... This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn't one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat."

Beyoncé has achieved legendary status, and this video shows why. Musically, the vocals and production are excellent, and in the music video they are matched brilliantly by the choreography, cinematography, and costume design. This is an impressive work of art, and has garnered more than nine million views on YouTube in just over a day.

Tomorrow, July 19, The Lion King movie is set to be released in theatres nationwide. The Lion King: The Gift album will be released tomorrow, as well. The soundtrack for the film is already available on Amazon and major streaming services.
