Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have released their soundtrack contribution to Peter Berg's Patriots Day, a film about the events of the Boston Marathon bombing that took place in April, 2013.

The instrumental LP features 12 tracks covering 68 minutes. Trent talked about the challenged of creating the music in an interview with Yahoo!:

We hadn’t done a film that was experiential like this, and we’d never taken on any subject matter of this nature... And that was part of the appeal. We wondered if we could work inside a big Hollywood picture like this, but color outside the lines in terms of what might be expected, and I think ultimately we succeeded.

The pair team up to create a dreamy, and often times haunting, collection of songs. Piano and keyboard parts are used to push-and-pull between tension and release, creating feelings of anxiety beautifully juxtaposed against peaceful moments.

Other soundtracks Trent and Atticus have teamed up on include The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl.

In case you missed it, Nine Inch Nails released a five-track EP last month titled Not The Actual Events.

The soundtrack is currently available on Amazon. You can also stream it above for free, via Spotify.
