Lee Fields and the Expressions Performance and Interview Live on KEXP 7.1.2014 [YouTube Video]

On April 4th, 2014, Lee Fields and the Expressions stopped by to a play a few songs for KEXP Radio from their new album, Emma Jean, which was released on June 3rd, 2014 by Truth & Soul Records.

Lee Fields and the Expressions are a true-to-heart soul band. Their music oozes with passion and hits you right in the heart. Lee Field's is no new player in the soul world. He has been playing soul music for over forty years and has been compared to the king of soul himself, James Brown.

During his performance at KEXP, the band played three songs from their latest album as well as one of their more well known songs, "Faithful Man." Between songs, Fields' and KEXP's host, Greg Vandy, discussed the inspiration behind that particular song as well as his music as a whole. Fields declared, "Music needs to come from a spontaneous place, about how you feel," and that his music is, "about the vast majority of people."

Another point he reiterates throughout his performance at KEXP is how he has waited forty years for his band, the Expressions, and how happy he is to have finally found them. It is no surprise how enthusiastic he is about his group, they are fully capable of keeping up with Fields who is a legend in his own right. The sultry cry of the horns and the grooving bass lines melding perfectly with Fields' gravelly vocals.
