The Grateful Dead estate have released an official soundboard recording of the band's legendary May 8, 1977 performance at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Released on the 40th anniversary of the historic concert, the 3-LP set features twenty songs covering two hours and forty-two minutes.
The words "Five Eight Seventy-Seven" hold a certain mystique within the Grateful Dead community. Many fans consider this night to be the best performance of the band's long career. The fact that a very good audience recording of the show circulated between fans on cassette tapes (and eventually as digital copies) helped to bring the Dead's live concert experience to a wider audience.
